Recently I have felt that my film rating is somewhat lacking. It was inspired by a program of a particular film festival, the shape of which might have not been as accidental as some critics of that festival claimed. I still like the categories I have, but I would like to introduce a few additional ones. They will act both as main categories – a film could be rated with just one of the new ones; or they will appear in any combination I would feel suits the film best. This will only apply to any future film reviews, I will not revise the already posted ones.
So on to the new categories:
(U)nsettling – for those films that leave me feeling creeped out or disturbed.
(A)nnoying – if the film pushes all the wrong buttons (ex. if I feel that it is sexist or xenophobic etc.)
(C)onfusing – if I don’t understand the film (plotwise in most cases) or am clueless as to the purpose why it had been made in the first place.
(S)tunning – if the whole film or important/significant parts of it strongly appeal to me aesthetically, I feel I need this category, because many of my absolutely favorite films I perceive on this very level and consider them simply beautiful.

I find your list too kind for my narrow-minded taste. You just lack a category for really poor films. I know it’s deliberate and all, but are there really no movies that you, despite having understood the content and the purpose of production (money, money, money), consider boring or childish or simply stupid? I bow to your zen mastery.

I doubt it has anything to do with zen
this is a very subjective kind of rating and it isn’t meant to asses the entertainment or artistic value of a film… These categories are meant to describe the main flavor of the after taste. They don’t say whether the film was good or bad, besides I apparently have a high tolerance for long, slow and artsy, which are often considered synonymous to boring.
and even if I would see a film like that I’m not sure whether I’d feel the need to write about it. Besides these would probably fall into the annoying or depressing categories, depending on whether they would be stupid in an offensive or pathetic way
– surprisingly enough I’m more often offended than saddened by things that insult my intelligence
I rarely watch films that are childish or boring and made for profit only. I just don’t care for a certain kind of films
